Alex Maguire carded the lowest round of his professional career to open up a three shot lead after the opening day of the Egypt Golf Series – Address Marassi Resort on the MENA Tour.
Maguire carded a round of 63 to lead the way on nine-under and he has a three shot gap between himself and former Ryder Cup player Chris Wood.
Maguire, who plays out of Laytown & Bettystown, flirted with victory last week but instead of licking his wounds after a near miss he was firing on all cylinders again.
The Mornington native burst out of the traps with an opening nine of 30 as he birdied the 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th before a sensational eagle on the par-5 18th.
The former Walker Cup star continued in that fashion with birdies on the 3rd, 5th and 7th to set a course record.
The MENA Golf Tour remains the only Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) recognised circuit headquartered in the Middle East, providing opportunities for professional golfers from the region and around the globe.
Former MENA Tour players include PGA Tour and DP World Tour winners Robert MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick and Todd Clements.
