Tom McKibbin has reached a career-high Official World Golf Ranking of 85 after he clinched his second tour victory at the Link Hong Kong Open on Sunday.
McKibbin was a class above everybody at the Asian Tour’s International Series event as he cruised to a seven-shot victory for his first win since the 2023 Porsche European Open.
It’s lifted the 22-year-old Holywood ace from 109th in the world to 85th and with the two DP World Tour playoffs to come, starting this week at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links.
McKibbin enjoyed a very solid debut campaign on LIV Golf but he also performed well in his DP World Tour starts with finishes of 4th, 15th, 11th, 20th, 3rd and 6th from eight appearances which helped him maintain his world ranking in and around the 115 mark.
But after securing a Masters debut and a third Open Championship appearance for next year after his win, McKibbin could secure a PGA Championship place and even push for a US Open berth if he can keep his great run of form going over the winter and push even further up the rankings.
The Data Golf rankings have him as the 53rd best player in the world and that will surely rise as they have not factored in his Asian Tour performance at the weekend.
Rory McIlroy remains world number two behind Scottie Scheffler while Shane Lowry is 25th and Seamus Power sits at 184th.
