Stephanie Meadow birdied two of her last three holes on her return to LPGA Tour action at the Standard Portland Classic.
Meadow, making her first appearance of the season, is level-par after a round of 72 which leaves her one shot outside the cut mark and eight shots behind leader Adela Cernousek.
It was a dream start for Canadian Brooke Henderson en route to an opening 7-under 65 on day one.
The 13-time LPGA Tour winner kicked off her first round at Columbia Edgewater Country Club with an impressive birdie streak, making four consecutive birdies on Nos. 10 through 13 to race out of the gate and up the leaderboard to 4-under early on Thursday morning.
Henderson then cooled off a bit, carding nine straight pars on her next nine holes, but she ultimately capped off her bogey-free effort with three more birdies on the par-5 5th, par-5 7th and par-4 9th holes to polish off a 65, what’s her lowest round on the LPGA Tour since she carded a 65 on day one of the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass in March.
“It was a really awesome start, four birdies in a row,” said Henderson, who hit 12 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in round one. “That’s an ideal start any week, especially here. I love coming back to this place. I do have a lot of great memories. A lot of good things happened to me here. I just tried to keep it rolling after that great start and was able to capitalize with three birdies on the back nine to get a little bit closer to the top of the leaderboard.”
The 27-year-old collected her first LPGA Tour victory as a non-member at The Standard Portland Classic back in 2015 and then successfully defended that title in 2016. She has never missed the cut in this tournament, and along with those two victories, Henderson has collected three other top-15 results at Columbia Edgewater Country Club – tying for 15th in 2017, tying for fourth in 2019 and tying for 10th in 2022.
This is her 17th tournament of the 2025 LPGA Tour season, and while Henderson has made 11 cuts and earned five top-20 finishes so far this year, it’s been a somewhat slow campaign for the two-time major champion. She remains in search of what’s continually proven to be an elusive 14th career victory, having not hoisted a trophy since the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in 2023, a drought that’s rather unusual for the Canadian, who has often said she likes to win at least a couple of times a year.
But with plenty of confidence derived from a blistering hot start at The Standard Portland Classic, Henderson now appears to be on the right track to contend for a win this week in Oregon, or at the very least secure her second top-10 finish of the season.
