Shane Lowry was enjoying a better day in round two of the FedEx St Jude Championship before play was suspended due to lightning at TPC Southwind.
Lowry was one-under-par through fourteen holes on Friday, lying in a share of 57th place on two-over for the tournament.
The Clara man opened his round with a birdie at the first before a birdie at the par-3 4th was sandwiched between bogeys on the third and fifth.
He dropped another shot on the seventh but seemed to have found a groove with birdies at the ninth and fourteenth before the hooter sounded.
Tommy Fleetwood looks set to challenge for his maiden PGA Tour victory again after the Englishman roared into a four shot lead despite bogeyed the last for a round of 64 and a thirteen-under total.
“Of course, when you shoot two good scores, it’s easy to say everything has been going well,” Fleetwood said. “But I think for the most part I’ve been very good off the tee, put myself in position to have a go at the course. My iron play has been good and solid, and I’ve rolled the ball well.”
“It hasn’t happened for me yet out on the PGA TOUR, but I would much rather be up there and not quite get it done than not there at all. And who knows? Maybe this weekend is the weekend and we’ll see, and we’ll crack on from there.”
Fleetwood carded three birdies in a row from the second hole before going one better with four straight gains from the thirteenth.
Collin Morikawa, Akshay Bhatia and Justin Rose share second place on nine-under, meanwhile Scottie Scheffler’s temper boiled over during his second round of 66 which left him six shots off the pace on seven-under.
Round 2 is set to resume at 7:30 a.m. CT Saturday morning. Round 3 is expected to begin between 9:50 and 11:50 a.m. CT off both Nos. 1 and 10 tees in threesomes.
