The 2025 DP World Tour and PGA Tour seasons are well underway but now that we are into the new year there is a sense that things are only beginning in the golf season.
There will be no women’s golf until the end of the month at the earliest but the men are starting to dust off the Christmas cobwebs and drip feed themselves back into competitive action.
DP World Tour
Tom McKibbin will make his debut for Great Britain and Ireland in the second edition of the Team Cup at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort.
McKibbin is the only non Englishman on the ten-man panel which will be skippered by playing captain Justin Rose.
The Team Cup provides Luke Donald a chance to cast an eye over an exciting mix of Ryder Cup stars and some of the DP World Tour’s brightest talents set to compete from 10-12 January.
22-year-old McKibbin earned his place on the GB&I team after an impressive second season on the DP World Tour where he did just about enough to clinch one of the ten PGA Tour cards available via the Race to Dubai to earn dual membership and he is now firmly in the mirror of European captain Donald for this year’s Ryder Cup in Bethpage Black.
Former Ryder Cup star Francesco Molinari will lead Continental Europe in their defence of the Team Cup, which they won in 2023 after defeating Great Britain & Ireland 14½ – 10½, in the three-day match play contest.
The teams will compete in one session of fourballs on the Friday, two sessions of foursomes on the Saturday and one session of singles on Sunday, with every player taking part in each session.
Team Cup Teams:
Great Britain and Ireland: Justin Rose (C), Laurie Canter, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Aaron Rai, Jordan Smith, Matt Wallace, Paul Waring, Matthew Jordan.

PGA Tour
Seamus Power gets his 2025 underway at the Sony Open in Hawaii as he looks to build up a head of steam before his first Signature Event at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the end of the month and the Genesis Open at Riviera in February.
Power enjoyed a strong FedEx Cup Fall campaign towards the end of last year despite withdrawing from November’s RSM Classic with a hip injury.
Mini Tours
David Carey and Brandon St John are in action on the Portugal Pro Tour while Jamie Butler, Eoghan Cassidy, Jamie Foley, Cathal Mac Canna and Karl McCormack are teeing it up at the Toro Tour Atalaya.
