Jon Rahm has emerged as a doubt for next week’s US Open at Pinehurst after he withdrew during the second round of LIV Golf’s Houston event on Saturday.

The two-time major winner is suffering from a foot infection and he is scheduled to do a pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday.

There were already question marks over Rahm’s fitness after footage emerged of him grimacing in pain after hitting a tee shot on the seventh hole during round one.

The Spaniard has struggled this year, going winless on the LIV tour while he has cut a frustrated figure at the major championships, missing the cut at the PGA Championship after a T45 finish at the Masters during his Augusta National defence.

Rahm’s form has collapsed since joining the Saudi backed tour. Last year he finished in the top-10 in three of the four majors including T10 at the US Open.

The 2021 US Open champion hasn’t looked settled on the LIV tour since moving at the end of 2023 and it is mooted that he is unhappy with the lifestyle on tour.
