Charges against world number one Scottie Scheffler following his arrest at the PGA Championship a fortnight ago have been dropped.

Scheffler was arrested before round two of the PGA Championship in Louisville for allegedly attempting to drive around traffic that was backed up due to an unrelated fatal accident.

The world number one was charged on May 17 with four counts, including a felony count of second-degree assault on a police officer.

Scheffler’s attorney Steve Romines said he would not be filing a civil lawsuit in response.

“We are pleased the case was dismissed today,” Romines told reporters.

According to the police report, an officer stopped Scheffler’s vehicle and attempted to give him instructions but the golfer “refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging” the officer to the ground.

According to Golf Channel, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell said that there was not enough evidence to pursue the case against Scheffler.

“Mr Scheffler’s actions, and the evidence surrounding their exchange during this misunderstanding, do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offences,” O’Connell said in the Golf Channel report.

The Louisville Metro Police Department have also taken action against the officer who arrested the golfer for not activating his body worn camera during the incident.
