Paul Eivers made it back-to-back joint wins on the PGA in Ireland region after he shared top spot with Neil O’Briain for his second win in as many days at the Newcastle West Pro-Am.
Having shared first place at Kilkea Castle on Friday, the Cahir Park man continued his hot vein of form with a three-under 68 to share the spoils with O’Briain, one shot clear of Rathfarnham’s Liam Power and Irish PGA Champion David Higgins of Waterville.
“Chuffed to say the least. It was a hell of a result,” said Eivers. “The season didn’t kick off the way I was anticipating I had big plans for the year and wanted to get out of the blocks early but things are coming right for me now, better late than never.”
It’s three wins in seven starts for Eivers who is targeting a hot run of form towards the end of the season with three events coming up next week as the region heads west again.
“The game is trending well now it’s in a positive place I’m looking forward to the next few events we have some big ones coming up so hopefully I can bring that form forward.”
Eivers opened with a birdie before dropping a shot on the fourth. That was followed by a rollercoaster run to the turn where he carded three birdies and two bogeys to turn in 35.
A birdie on the par-5 14th steadied the ship before a superb closing birdie on the tough 18th saw him grab a share of the lead.
“It was a bogey birdie run on the front nine but fortunately steadied the ship on the back nine and held some nice putts. The wind picked up as the day went on, I was fortunate to finish with a nice birdie on 18 it certainly played like index 1 on the day, a big long hole but I made the most of it.”
