A clean sweep in the morning foursomes set the platform for Ireland as they eased to victory over Sweden in the Women’s Octagonal Matches to set up a group decider against Belgium at Costa Ballena.

The matches were tight in the foursomes with all three ties going the distance but it was the Girls in Green who came out on the right side of the result. Olivia Costello / Aideen Walsh emerged 1UP victors in the top match as did Jessica Reynolds / Kayleigh Mulholland while Ella Cantwell / Gemma McMeekin were 2UP winners in the middle match.

Ireland also made a strong start to the afternoon singles to build up an unassailable lead over the Swedes.

Costello was a 2&1 winner over Maja Bohlin while Walsh went to the 18th again before winning 2UP against Lova Askerdal.

Jessica Reynolds made it three matches in a row for Ireland as she also clinched an 18th hole win over Ronja Alverlin before Sweden managed to stop the bleeding with two victories of 4&2 and 4&3 as Mulholand and Lilly Hedlund shared the spoils in their singles match.

The winner of today’s group decider between Ireland and Belgium will advance to the medal match.
