Ireland’s Cole Henderson is just three shots off the lead after the opening day of the Scottish Boys Amateur Championship at West Kilbride with three Irish inside the top-6.
Over 40 boys and girls from Ireland are competing in Scotland this week.
Henderson is in solo second place on four-under while Irish Junior Open winner Mark Cadden is a shot further back on three-under-par.
Adam Doherty is in sixth place on two-under as Switzerland’s Miles Wennestam leads on seven-under.
Roganstown golfer Cadden was first out and his half five alarm call was worth it as he carded a round of 68.
“It was lovely, played great all day, pace putting was the best part today. Hit a lot of greens and birdied the easy holes, made par on the hard holes that’s what you need to do around here.
“There are a few tough par fours with some tight holes where you have to hit the fairway even if you are further back than you would like, you have to do that.
“The course is brilliant, the greens are lovely there was a bit of wind but compared to what Scotland can normally be like the weather was good. The golf in Scotland is great, great courses around here left right and centre.”
In the Girls’ section, Jessica Reynolds, Zoe McLean-Tattan, Roisin Scanlon and Gemma McMeekin all lead the Irish charge on one-over in a share of 18th place.
Germany’s Sophie Renner leads the way on seven-under.
