Emma Fleming is pretty good with a rental set of clubs it appears after she finished in a share of sixth place at the South American Amateur Championship in Chile.

The Elm Park star closed with a one-under 71 at Sport Francés in Santiago for a one-over total.

The week began in nightmarish fashion for the team of Fleming, Ellen O’Shaughnessy, Gavin O’Neill and Thomas Higgins whose golf clubs failed to arrive on time meaning they had to play the event using rental sets of clubs.

It took Fleming some time to adjust as she opened with an eight-over 80 but she rallied over the next three rounds, playing them in a combined seven-under-par.

A second round of 68 was followed by rounds of 70 and 71.

O’Shaughnessy was 38th in the women’s event on 23 over while in the men’s event, Gavin O’Neill was 29th on five-over with Thomas Higgins 62nd on 15-over.

Paraguay’s Benjamín Fernández won the men’s event while Maria José Marin of Colombia won the women’s event by twelve shots on seventeen-under.

South America won the Harrison Cup.
