A winter chill in the air was no match for Jonathan Yates’ hot scoring at the latest edition of the Race to 59 at Corballis.
The Naas professional claimed the Gross Prize on week 17 of the winter league with a blistering 61 in cold, drizzly conditions to continue his fine form since claiming an Alps Tour card last month.
On any other day amateur Rhys Clarke’s 63 would surely have proved enough to snatch top spot but the runner-up came up against a brick wall in Yates.
In the Nett competition, Derek Harrison claimed first prize with a wonderful 63 of his own while David Brabazon finished second, a stroke further back after a superb 64.
A €620 pot saw the winners bank €217 each while the runners-up took home €93.
As ever, well done to everyone involved, particularly the maintenance staff at Corballis who continue to present the layout stunningly each week despite the weather.
