Galway Bay’s Eddie McCormack had never claimed a senior championship, he put that record straight in Portumna Golf Club yesterday as he claimed the Connacht Stroke Play Championship.

McCormack, who had famously lost out to a 16-year old Rory McIlroy in the 2005 Irish Close final was not about to let another opportunity slip. The Galway Bay member carded a -5 total to claim victory by two strokes from Sean Flanagan of Co Sligo. He climbs to 8th in the Bridgestone Order of Merit following this win.
