The USA proved too strong for Great Britain and Ireland once again as the home side won six of seven matches for the second successive day at the Concession Cup in Florida. The US team have been in inspired form at Concession Golf Club over the first two days and now need just two points from the possible 14 on offer in today’s final singles competition to capture their third straight Concession Cup title. It really was incredible golf as the USA stormed home in six of their matches by three holes or more. What’s even more special is that five of their seven teams shot par or better in the alternate shot format. On a more positive note from our point of view, super seniors Alan Mew and Portmarnock’s Adrian Morrow put GB&I’s first point on the tournament board with a 2&1 victory over Buddy Marucci and Paul Simson. The news wasn’t so good for Irish amateur stalwart Garth McGimpsey and teammate Stephen East who went down to Seniors Doug Hanzel and Sean Knapp 4&3 – the Americans firing seven birdies along the way. While Ireland’s third representative, Douglas’ Peter O’Keefe alongside Matt Clark were beaten 3&2 by mid-amateurs Stewart Hagestad and Michael. Play concludes today with 14 singles matches set to decide the fate of the title. However it’s looking ominous for GB&I with the USA only needing two points out of 14 available to secure its third straight Cup. Do you believe in miracles?
