Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall is Irish Girls’ Open Stroke Play Champion after a final round 74 in less than favourable conditions at Roganstown Golf & Country Club today.
Compatriot and 36- hole leader, Louise Rydqvist, struggled to come to terms with the softer conditions and after opening her round with four bogeys, her hopes of becoming Champion soon slipped.
Playing alongside Rydqvist, Marie Bechtold (Germany) took the lead after six holes but bogeys on 9 and 12 brought her to 4-over-par for the tournament. Meanwhile Arwefjall, who had held the lead after the opening round, birdied the par-5 10th to get to +3 for her tournament.
The rain began to fall again as the leading groups reached the closing holes. Arwefjall wasn’t affected, however, as she managed another birdie on the 15th which was enough to secure a 1 shot victory over her teammate Rydqvist.
Nicole Joyce-Moreno finished best of the Irish after he came home strong with birdies at 16 and 17 to finish tied ninth.
