The USA reclaimed the Arnold Palmer Trophy with an imperious performance over the weekend at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Running out 19.5 to 10.5 winners overall it wasn’t exactly a close match on the final day but that was all down to the almost whitewash the Americans gave the Europeans in the Saturday singles where they won 9.5 of the 10 available points. The match had been drawn on day one but Saturday realistically ended any European hopes and they were left with a mountain to climb just to put some respectability on the scoreline on Sunday
Sundays singles were drawn 5-5 which left the USA with a nine point clear victory.
Outside the main business of the event, David Wicks (England) and Maverick McNealy (USA) were named as recipients of the Michael Carter Award which is given to the the player that best represents the qualities and ideals of sportsmanship, integrity and upholding of the game. Collin Molikawa received the Arnold Palmer Cup exemption into the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational, whihc is awarded to players both teams represent the Arnold Palmer Legacy, the values that Arnold Palmer exhibited through his career and life in golf.
