Monaghan is hoping to become the next big destination for golfing holidays in Ireland, as Concra Wood, the jewel in the county’s golfing crown, hosts the Monaghan Irish Challenge pro tournament, part of the prestigious European Tour, 4-7 October.

With five golf courses set amid trademark rolling green drumlins punctuated by lush forests and beautiful lakes, each located around an hour’s drive of either Dublin or Belfast, the county offers golfers several great value ‘play and stay’ offers available throughout the county, with prices starting from just €69pp.

Concra Wood is the pick of the bunch in terms of golf courses, offering both breath-taking panoramic views looking out over Lough Muckno and Hope Castle, and designed by two Irish golfing legends Christy O’Connor Senior and Junior and they are playing host to some of the best young players during the Monaghan Irish Challenge in October – entry is free so get up and see them in action.

There are packages on offer at several hotels in the area, including:

The four-star Shirley Arms Hotel located in the heart of the pretty market town of Carrickmacross (15 minutes from Concra) who have a ‘play, stay and dine’ package: 1-night B&B with evening meal and 1 round of golf from €145pp.
