Tiernan McLarnon enjoyed a marvellous win at the Mullingar Scratch Cup, sponsored by Davitt and Davitt thanks to his hot streak on the final stretch of holes.

McLarnon’s blistering finish, where he picked up seven shots in the closing eleven holes, left him one ahead of West of Ireland Champion Robert Brazill (Naas), having started the day two shots Alan Fahy (Dun Laoghaire), John Hickey (Cork) and Stefan Greenberg (Tandragee).

Having returned a two-under 70 in the third round, McLarnon bogeyed the seventh in the final round before things heated up for him and his eventual six-under 66 was enough to get his name on the famous trophy and join many legends of the game such as Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Philip Walton, Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley, Garth McGimpsey and JB Carr,
