Calum Ward leads the Irish charge as he looks to overturn a three shot deficit to Judd Sundelson in the final round of the R&A Student Tour Series finale at St Andrews.
The UCD student is three-under-par after rounds of 70 and 71 on the Jubilee Course and he will look to land a famous victory on the Old Course today.
Ward had a brilliant start to his second round with an opening birdie followed by another birdie on the par-5 6th. A bogey, birdie, bogey run to the turn halted him slightly but he kept himself in the mix with a birdie at the par-5 12th.
A run of pars was broken by a bogey on the par-3 17th but the 21-year-old is well placed to make a change from a share of 2nd place.
Leading the Maynooth University challenge is Cian Harkin in a share of fourth place on one-under after he recovered from an opening 74 with a much improved 69 to lie five shots back.
The 24-year-old caught fire around the turn with five birdies in six holes being the catalyst for his big move.
Maynooth University golfer Ben Cahill and Matthew Giles of Ulster University rounds off the top-10 on two-over after rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.
In the women’s section, Maynooth’s Anna Dawson will need a big move and a prayer if she is to clinch victory. She is in eighth place on eleven-over, ten shots behind University of St Andrews star Emilie Knai.
UCD golfer Maebh McLoughlin is in 12th place.
