It was a good week for the Irish in the United States as the Saint Patrick’s weekend resulted in top-10 finishes for Fionn Dobbin, Caitlin Shippam and Molly O’Hara while Darcy Hogg finished 15th in their respective collegiate events.
Mullingar Scratch Cup champion Dobbin secured the joint best collegiate finish of his career so far with a share of eight place at the Michael A. Marino Classic.
The Kansas State student carded three under par rounds for a five-under total as rounds of 71, 69 and 71 left him five shots behind joint winners Cooper Claycomb and Max Bengtsson at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
It’s the third top-10 of his collegiate career since the Malone man moved to Kansas in the second half of 2024.
Hogg carded rounds of 72, 70 and 72 for a two-under total which saw him finish in a share of 15th place.
Meanwhile, UNLV student Caitlin Shippam saved her best for last as she claimed a share of fourth place at the Jackrabbits Invitational.
Shippam carded a final round of 68 to add to rounds of 74 and 70 to finish on four-under-par, five shots behind her teammate Pin Hsi Chen.
The sophomore’s score of four-under is a career-low 54-hole record for her and she played a key role in helping UNLV Rebels to the team title which they won by a whopping thirteen shots on 12-under.
“I’m incredibly proud of the composure this group showed throughout the week. Bringing home both the team trophy and the individual title, along with a runner-up finish, is a testament to the high standards these athletes set for themselves every single day. Sweeping the top of the leaderboard shows the depth of our talent and the strength of our program’s culture. We’ve been working toward this level of consistency, and seeing that preparation translate into such a dominant performance is a huge momentum builder for the rest of our season,” said UNLV Head Coach Amy Bush-Herzer.
South Dakota State student O’Hara who is attached to Clandeboye Golf Club picked up a share of 8th place on two-over-par.
