Maguire finishes in midfield as Hannah Green wins in Singapore

Leona Maguire will be disappointed to finish in midfield at the HSBC Women’s World Championship as a final round of 75 completed a frustrating weekend in Singapore.

Maguire finished in a share of 41st place on level-par at Sentosa Golf Club as she waits to put four consistent rounds together in the early part of the season.

The Cavan woman started well with a birdie on the 2nd before a bogey on the 6th saw her turn in 36.

Things began to unravel for her on the back nine as she bogeyed the 11th and 12th and although she picked up a birdie on the par-5 13th she got caught out on the par-3 15th which lead to a double bogey.

She arrested some of the damage with a birdie at the par-5 16th but closed with a bogey.

Australia’s Hannah Green held off Auston Kim and Minjee Lee to clinch a one shot win on fourteen-under-par after a final round of 69 and a second Singapore title after winning in 2024.

Things got nervy for Green towards the end as she left the door ajar with back to back closing bogeys but her challengers ran out of holes.

Green looked to be in cruise control when she birdied the first and eagled the 8th and she continued in that vein of form with birdies on the 11th and 13th.

Things got edgy from there as she bogeyed three of her last five holes with a birdie on the 15th proving crucial in the end.

England’s Charley Hull, Mimi Rhodes and Lottie Woad all finished in a tie for 10th on six under

The 72-player, no-cut tournament was the second of three stops on the LPGA’s early year Asian swing, with the final one next week at Hainan Island, China.
