Dooks’ Conor Hickey suffered late heartbreak as he was overtaken on the final hole of the Toro Tour event at Azata Golf Club in Estepona.

The Kerry amateur took a share of the lead with Sweden’s Elva Holmgren into the final round with Paddy Quill of Cork Golf Club completing the trio three shots behind.

After the 53rd and penultimate hole, Hickey and Holmgren remained tied at the top at -4, both two-under for their rounds, but an unfortunate double bogey from Hickey and a grandstand eagle finish from Holmgreen saw the Swede take the honours.

Quill finished in solo fourth place overall after a four-over closing round, and in third place in the amateur standings behind Holmgren and Hickey, with Belgian pro Olivier Whithofs taking overall third at +4, one ahead of Quill and six behind Hickey.

County Louth’s Louis Goodman finished in a share of sixth place at +7, one ahead of reigning West of Ireland champion Dylan Holmes who finished just inside the top 10 at +8.
