Ireland thump Belgium to reach Women’s Octagonal final

Ireland made it three victories from three matches to reach the final of the Women’s Octagonal’s where they will face France in Costa Ballena.

A dominant display from the Girls in Green saw them thump Belgium 6.5-2.5 in the group decider which included another foursomes session victory.

Aideen Walsh and Olivia Costello continued their 100 percent record as a 4&3 win saw them make it three wins from three as a pair while Gemma McMeekin and Ella Cantwell ensured Ireland took a 2-1 lead into the afternoon singles with a 1UP win.

In the singles, Costello maintained her dominance with an 18th hole win over Violette Gerard as Walsh won her singles match 2UP.

Ella Cantwell and Gemma McMeekin completed clean sweeps for themselves with 2&1 and 2UP wins respectively.

18-year-old Costello has been the star of the show for Ireland winning six out of six matches while the experienced Walsh has five points from six.

It’s been a magnificent team performance so far with each player boasting a 50% win ratio or better.
