Five-time Major winner Rory McIlroy has confirmed his return to the Genesis Scottish Open, with a world-class field once again set to gather at the Renaissance Club from July 9-12, 2026.

The 2023 champion will bid to claim the title for a second time when he tees it up in the second Rolex Series event of the 2026 Race to Dubai, and first tournament in the Closing Swing, with tickets on sale now at etg.golf/GSO26Tickets

The World Number Two enjoyed a stellar 2025, completing the career grand slam in memorable fashion at the Masters, lifting two further trophies on the PGA TOUR, and winning his second Amgen Irish Open title.

The Northern Irishman also won 3.5 points to help Europe earn their first away win in the Ryder Cup since 2012 at Bethpage Black, New York, and capped off the year by being crowned Race to Dubai Champion for a seventh time – and fourth in succession.

McIlroy will return to the Genesis Scottish Open seeking to add to his famous victory three years ago, when he produced a brilliant birdie-birdie finish to edge out home favourite Robert MacIntyre by one stroke.

Since making history as the first player to triumph in the national opens of both Scotland and Ireland as well as The Open with that win in 2023, the 36-year-old has recorded tied fourth and runner-up finishes in East Lothian.

McIlroy said: “It’s always an honour to compete in a national open, and I’m excited to be back at the Genesis Scottish Open this summer.

“Winning in 2023 created some great memories, and I’m looking forward to building on my strong performances at The Renaissance Club.”

The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, counting on both the Race to Dubai Rankings delivered by DP World and the FedExCup, and boasts Genesis, the luxury automotive brand from South Korea, as title sponsor.

American Chris Gotterup, who claimed his third PGA TOUR title at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January, won for the first time on the DP World Tour when he lifted the Genesis Scottish Open trophy last July.

Genesis title-sponsor two tournaments on the 2026 Race to Dubai, with the Genesis Championship in Korea rounding out the Back 9 in October, as well as two tournaments on the PGA TOUR’s 2026 schedule, with the Genesis Scottish Open coming after The Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in February.

The event benefits from the continued commitment of the Scottish Government and VisitScotland, and retains its place in golf’s global calendar the week ahead of The Open as part of these agreements through to 2026.

The fan experience at the Genesis Scottish Open includes the Fringe by the Tee pop-up stage, in conjunction with the Fringe by the Sea festival, which in 2025 featured a Saturday headline slot from KT Tunstall, the Grammy-nominated, Brit Award-winning artist, with this year’s line-up to be announced soon.
