United States President Donald Trump is really hoping to be on site for the Amgen Irish Open which takes place at Trump Doonbeg in September, according to the President’s son, Eric.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Eric Trump declared that his father would dearly love to be present when Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and many other global stars descend on County Clare to compete in what will be the first Irish Open ever to be staged at the resort.

“He wants to be here,” Eric said in a wide-ranging interview that covered many topics. “I know Rory [McIlroy] wants him to be here. I think all of Ireland probably wants him to be here.

“Now, being the President of the United States is crazy, you never know what’s going to happen on any given day, it’s a big job but believe me there’s no place he’d rather be in the world than in Ireland for a tournament he loves at a proper he loves.

“We had this property long before politics and have spent hundreds of millions of dollars making it one of the great resorts in the world. We’re really proud of it, we love the team, we love the town. It’s a great honour to have the Irish Open.”

42-year-old Eric, an executive vice president at The Trump Organisation, boldly claims that the 2026 edition of the Irish Open will be the greatest in the event’s 99-year history, suggesting that early ticket sales have exceeded expectations and that Rory McIlroy, who will be the defending champion, was fully behind the choice of venue.

He also promised that the golf course will be presented in immaculate fashion.

“It’s at a Trump property, which means it’s going to be the best,” he said. “Trump Doonbeg is one of the great properties anywhere in the world. We’ve put so much work into it, so much money into it.

“Ticket sales are off the charts, tracking so far ahead of any other Irish Open so we’re doing great, people are excited about it and we’re going to have the greatest players in the world.

“Rory was so behind this tournament coming to Trump Ireland. He’s a great friend of the family, an incredible guy to say the least and what he does to represent this country is amazing.

“We’re working hard out there, every blade of grass, every bunker, every fairway is going to be immaculate. And we’re going to put on the greatest Irish Open we’ve ever seen.”
