If Nick O’Loughlin can handle himself at an intense roundtable on The Traitors Ireland, then surely there isn’t a shot or putt he can’t handle on the golf course?
An avid golfer, O’Loughlin loves creating content videos for his thriving Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube channels ‘loughlane’ and has some pedigree in the amateur game having made appearances in the North, South and West of Ireland Championships during Covid.
Home Club?
Druids Glen, but I played all of my junior golf in Bray. I’ve been a member at Druids Glen for the last 10years.
Handicap?
Four at the moment, but sadly, it’s on the rise!
How did you get into golf?
We’ve always been a very sporty family. Dad was one of the first members in Druids Glen,so we did everything he did. He loved his golf, so naturally we followed in his footsteps. We learned how to play on the old Par-3 track at Druids Glen that isn’t there anymore and just fell in love with it.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
I won the National Indoor Tennis Championship when I was a child, but I was playing so much tennis at that stage. I actually quit around 13, and just played golf and football from then onwards. My swing has always been very rounded–like hitting a big forehand in tennis – so I’ve always tended to hit a big draw with my golf swing. I’ve had to work on that over the years. Everyone swings their own swing but that’s probably the only negative.
Best club or part of your game?
My favourite club is this rescue that my uncle gave me. It is a PING Anser with an Anser shaft, and it’s my go to club from 190 to 230 yards. If I can hit it, I will try to hit it, whether I’m taking something off with a cut or trying to murder a draw. I just love it, and it suits my swing. I’ll try and hit it from anywhere if I can.
Worst club or part of your game?
When I’m playing a lot, it’s consistency. When I’m not playing as much, my chipping is first to go. But I’d say my short irons would be the biggest let down; from pitching wedge to 7-iron is what I could improve most on.
Favourite thing about golf?
The craic with the lads! The golf trips away, first day heading off and looking forward to the slagging and the competition. It’s definitely that.
Favourite golf course?
I love the Old Head of Kinsale. As an experience it was absolutely class.
Golfing goals for 2026?
I’m in between going back to focusing on getting the handicap down and getting back into the championships OR focusing on becoming one of the biggest golf Youtubers in Ireland. I’d say that’s the route I’ll go down. It’s always been a dream of mine to do that and I’ve had the opportunity to pursue it over the last 12months. I have a channel called ‘loughlane’ which I really enjoy doing.
When did you decide to start a golf content account?
I always wanted to do it. I went on TheTraitors Ireland and a lot of the people on it were social media people, whereas I just wanted to go on and win the game. The golf page just took off from there. I love making the videos, and I can’t wait to get really stuck into it when the weather allows it.
Has being on The Traitors given a big boost to the content creation side of things?
There was a spike in viewership, but I had 25k followers on Tiktok, which is my main account, so when I was posting about The Traitors most of the people engaging with me were asking me when I was going back to the golf stuff? It was funny.
What’s worse, first tee nerves or having to murder someone? Or defend yourself at the roundtable?
The intensity of the roundtable. There is nothing like it. You can’t describe the different buzz. The adrenaline rush is unbelievable. But would I rather be hitting the first tee shot at Royal Portrush with OB right and left,or defending myself at the roundtable? Both are as bad as each other. I played in the North, South, and West before when I had the opportunity, but I’m not good enough to be able to compete with the best guys. I’m good enough to get in and give the cut a go, so making th ecut is my trophy! Some of the scores they shot that year at the North–I just couldn’t see it.
Bucket list golf course or courses?
I’d love to play Royal County Down. If I was to go elsewhere, I’d love to play any of the Open tracks really. Augusta National, obviously, and Cypress Point would be pretty cool.
Dream fourball?
I’d have to say the craic my three buddies and I have is pretty good. Ryan from Donegal, Dwayne and Dave. The Donegal man brings a different kind of energy, and we just fight like cats and dogs over different rulings you wouldn’t believe! We had a six-hour round in Rosapenna one year.It was the final round of a lads’ trip, and it got so intense that we were pulling up Robert MacIntyre on Instagram to give us a ruling – and he gave it to us in fairness to him. It’s a different energy and I look forward to it every year
