Ireland kept their hopes of progression alive as they produced a strong singles showing to defeat host nation Spain at the Octagonal Matches.
Ireland recorded a 3.5-1.5 victory at Costa Ballena to put their first point on the board after an opening round defeat to England.
Things didn’t start well for the new look boys in green when Adam Fahey and John William Burke were beaten 7&5 by Marcel Fonseca and Samuel Love but the team regrouped in the afternoon singles.
Former West of Ireland champion Keith Egan levelled affairs with a 1UP win over Yago Horno while Isaac Oliver impressed in beating Juan Miro 3&2 in the second singles tie.
South of Ireland champion Jonathan Keane’s half point against Gonzalo Banos kept Ireland in front as East of Ireland champion David Howard ensured Ireland couldn’t be caught with a 2UP win over Nicolas Vidal.
Ireland will look to make it back to back wins against Portugal today.
