Alex Maguire shot a final-round, one-under-par 71 that saw the Laytown and Bettystown man finish in a share of seventh place at the MENA Tour’s Egypt Golf Series at New Giza Golf Club.

Maguire was in the penultimate group after rounds of 70 and 66, and two birdies in his opening three holes was close to the perfect start. He couldn’t build on it though, trading a bogey with a birdie to make the turn at two-under for the day.

With low scoring elsewhere on the course, a strong back nine was required as he went in chase of his first professional win, but bogeys on 10 and 12 left him too much work to do and though he picked up a shot on the par-5 17th, it was only enough to see him finish in seventh place.

Finland’s Lauri Ruuska began the final round seven shots behind leader Ludovico Addabbo but caught fire, birdieing his first two holes then reeling off four-in-a-row to close out the front nine. Four more birdies followed on the back, and his bogey-free 10-under 62 saw him post -14 and finish one clear of England’s Charlie Crockett.

Ruuska collects the top prize of $18,000, with Maguire earning $2,800 for his week’s work.
