Irish punters are backing Shane Lowry to bounce back in style at this week’s Dubai Desert Classic, following late heartbreak at the Dubai Invitational where victory slipped from his grasp on the final hole.

Lowry led heading down the stretch last week but saw his challenge undone on the 72nd hole, finding the water and opening the door for Spain’s Nacho Elvira to snatch the title. However confidence remains high among Irish golf fans, with BOYLE Sports reporting strong support for the Offaly man at 16/1 to get over the line at the Emirates Golf Club.

Standing in his way is Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy, who heads the betting as the 3/1 favourite as he looks to add another prestigious title to his already glittering CV in the Middle East.

Beyond Dubai, the odds suggest 2026 could be another golden year for Irish golf on the game’s biggest stages. McIlroy is priced at 2/1 with BOYLE Sports to add to his major tally this year, while Lowry is also firmly in the conversation at 7/1 to add to the Claret Jug he picked up at the 2019 Open Championship.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: “Shane Lowry was desperately unlucky last week and Irish punters clearly believe he’s ready to respond in the best possible way. Rory McIlroy continues to set the standard at the top of the market, both in Dubai and when it comes to the majors later in the year.”
