Mark Cadden is in contention after the opening round of the Palmares Open on the Portugal Pro Tour as a handful of Irish players continued their preparation for the new season.
Cadden is three-under-par after a round of 69 and sits in a share of fourth place, just two shots off the lead held by England’s Ryan Moody.
The Roganstown amateur is a former Flogas Irish Junior Open champion and he is part of Geoff Loughrey’s glittering stable at the ‘Made in Holywood Golf Academy’ which has already produced Seán Keeling and four-time amateur major winner Hugh Foley the pick of the bunch.
Foley himself is warming up for a second term on the Alps Tour and he shares tenth place with compatriot Brandon St John on one-under-par after a round of 71.
Padraig O’Dochartaigh is just outside the top-20 on one-over after a 73 while amateurs David O’Malley and Sean Whelan are back in 70th and 71st place.
