Cameron Clark is tied for fourth after the opening round of the Legends Tour Qualifying School at Gloria Golf Resort in Turkey, and on course to earn one of the five Legends Tour cards on offer.

The England-based Northern Irishman was taking on Gloria’s New Course in round one, and birdied two of the opening nine holes, dropping just one shot and made the turn at one-under.

Back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 was the ideal start to the back, but a double bogey on the par-3 12th put the brakes on. He responded to birdie the par-5 16th and 18th holes, closing out a three-under-par 69 that leaves him in a three-way tie for fourth alongside England’s Paul Streeter and German Christopf Gunther.

Scotland’s Scott Henderson and Brazilian Rafa Barcellos are tied for second a shot ahead, but Welshman Kyron Sullivan has clear daylight and a two-shot lead at -6.

Gary Murphy is next best of the Irish at +2 and tied for 45th, with Damian Mooney a shot further adrift at +3 and

Patrick O’Brien is at +6, currently one shot outside the provisional cut mark, while Roy Connolly is three shots further back and needing a big second round to make the top 72 and ties who will move on to contest rounds three and four.
