Six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo underwent open heart surgery and is recovering at home.

The news was revealed on the Englishman’s social media channels after he had the surgery at The Cleveland Clinic.

The 68-year-old is England’s greatest golfer of all time having won a hat trick of Masters titles and a hat trick of Open Championships. Faldo won his first green jacket in 1989 and made it back to back in 1990 before adding a third in 1996. Faldo won his three Claret Jugs in 1987, 1990 and 1992 while he spent 97 weeks at world number one and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1997.

post on social media read: “After two weeks in Cleveland, Nick Faldo, and his wife, Lindsay, are on their way home following a successful, scheduled preventative open-heart surgery to repair his enlarged aorta, performed by world-renowned cardiac surgeon Dr Lars Svensson at The Cleveland Clinic.

“We are deeply grateful for Dr Svensson and his exceptional medical team.”

Home never felt so good,” added the statement. “We will keep you updated on Nick’s recovery in the coming weeks on our social media channels.”

Faldo intends to return to his golf course design work and expects to travel to Augusta National in April for the 30th anniversary of his third Masters triumph.
