Max Kennedy will tee it up at today’s LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida as he looks to make it third time lucky in his bid to earn a spot on the Saudi backed tour.
Kennedy is the lone Irishman after receiving a late entry into the event last week despite not initially appearing on the original player list for the 72-hole qualifying event where three LIV Golf League spots are up for grabs.
The Royal Dublin man embarked on his maiden professional campaign last season and earned a strong card on the HotelPlanner Tour for this year after finishing 46th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings.
But he has been given another roll of the dice at LIV Promotions and he will hope that Black Diamond Ranch in Florida is a happy hunting ground where exemptions into the Asian Tour sanctioned International Series are also available.
The top three finishers at Black Diamond Ranch will be awarded full-season Wild Card spots in the 2026 LIV Golf League, an increase from two, with the top three earning $200,000, $150,000 and $100,000, from the $1.5 million prize fund.
The top-10 and ties will secure full exemption into the elevated Asian Tour events the International Series which is another route to LIV Golf depending on performances.
Kennedy will enter the stage in the first round where the top-20 and ties after 18 holes will advance to round two where the scores are reset. The top-20 and ties from round two will move to the final two rounds which will be played over 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday.
The University of Lousiville graduate came so close to making the 36-hole final day shootout in 2023 but failed to advance past the opening round last year when he was one of five Irishmen to compete.
Kennedy has always been keen to keep his options open regarding where he sees his long term future and playing alongside the likes of Bryson DeChambeau would be a real treat for him.
“I certainly like Bryson DeChambeau I think he’s a great guy and a great influence for golf so Bryson would be my favourite golfer on LIV.
“It gives me a lot of motivation being able to play against the best golfers in the world is something I wanted to do from an early age and having the opportunity to do that this week is definitely motivating and will egg me on to become better.”
Amateurs Stuart Grehan and Gavin Tiernan were exempt into LIV Promotions this week but both have opted to tee it up in the Jones Cup Invitational instead.
The 83-man field features a host of former DP World Tour winners, including Chris Wood, Alex Levy, Matthias Schwab, Tom Lewis and Lucas Bjerregaard while Anthony Kim also returns after spending last season as a wildcard.
