Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will reunite at next month’s Optum Golf Channel Games when they take on a Scottie Scheffler selection.
McIlroy and Lowry will be joined by Haotong Li and European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald while Scheffler has selected Sam Burns, Luke Clanton and US Ryder Cup skipper Keegan Bradley for the floodlit event at Trump National Golf Club, Jupiter, Florida.
The Optum Golf Channel games will see players compete across five challenges: the timed drive competition, the timed short-game competition, a 14-club challenge, a timed shootout and a captain’s challenge featuring McIlroy and Scheffler.
The timed drive challenge will see players go head to head and launch as many drives as possible into a scoring grid during a two-minute period.
The short game competition includes chipping and putting where players hit shots around the green before also doing a putting challenge from various distances, this will be over three minutes.
The fourteen club challenge will see two players from each team going head to head in a closest to the pin competition from a designated distance where all fourteen clubs will be used – each team can nominate a player to hit a 15th shot left handed.
The timed shootout is an alternate shot competition involving all four players where players will be situated at stations on the tee, fairway and two around the green.
The captains challenge will see McIlroy and Scheffler go head to head.
Shots will include irons from a variety of distances, as well as wedge, pitch, bunker shot, greenside shot, 30-foot putt, and 10-foot putt.
