Seamus Power is confident that he can hit form at the right time after he boosted his hopes of retaining his PGA Tour status for next year with a second round of 66 at the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico.
The Waterford man fired seven birdies with his only blemish coming on the 9th (his last) after a three-putt bogey as he moved to into a share of 21st place on ten-under and seven shots behind Matthias Schmid at El Cardonal.
The two-time PGA Tour winner, who was inside the top-50 in the world rankings two years ago, lies 135th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings with only the top-100 after the RSM Classic earning full cards for 2026 – the top-125 would earn conditional status.
“It’s one of those courses where there’s always so many chances out there, but that wasn’t too bad today,” he told the Irish Independent.
“So a couple more of those, and hopefully I’ll be in a good spot come Sunday.”
Needing a good start Power obliged with back to back birdies at 10 and 11 befoer adding three on the spin from the 14th. He pushed on into his back nine with birdies at the first and sixth before letting one slip at the par-3 9th.
With just two events remaining of the season, Power could break into the top-100 in the FedEx Cup with a second place finish on Sunday while a top-19 finish would see him break into the top-125 which could earn conditional status.
But the Tooraneena man, who is also trying to avoid dropping out of the world’s top-200 after a couple of years of injury struggles, is confident that his game is turning around.
“Nothing really has changed,” said Power. “You go into every week and you do your best to set yourself up to win. Obviously, I haven’t put myself in a lot of good positions, but a couple of decent rounds here, and a couple of decent ones recently, so it’s trending in the right way.
“So you never know in golf.”
