After a stop-start round one on Thursday due to weather delays, the majority of the field including both Rowan Lester and Liam Grehan returned Friday morning to complete their first round.
Teeing off on the back nine, Lester managed to complete six holes before the claxon sounded on Thursday evening. Lester returned Friday morning – starting on the 16th hole at one-under. Lester made another birdie on the par-5 18th to head into his final nine holes at two-under.
It seemed as if the delay did a world of good for Lester as he shown electric form closing out his first round. A textbook birdie came at the par-3 second hole, before adding another at the par-5 fifth.
Lester went on to make four at the par-5 seventh, meaning he birdied each of the par-5s around Ebotse Links. The 28-year-old closed out his round in emphatic fashion, making birdie on the par-4 ninth to post a six-under-par 66 and sit two strokes off the lead in T2.
Liam Grehan couldn’t make the most of the restart as the 28-year-old began the restart at one-over after completing only three-holes on Thursday evening.
It was a calamatious start for Grehan as he made an eight at the par-5 fifth but Grehan did well to respond with a birdie at the seventh.
Taking the turn at three-over, Grehan added two birdies and two bogeys to his scorecard on the back nine to post a three-over 75 to sit T108 heading into round two.
