Robert Brazill, James Sugrue and Paul McBride all find themselves in a share of 10th place after the opening round of the Clutch Pro Tour’s Mizuno Championship at Al Zorah Golf Club in the UAE.

Matching rounds of 68 leave the trio on -4, three off the quartet who share first-round leader honours at -7. Brazill was the first of the three to take to the course, and his 68 came via an eagle, five birdies, a bogey and a double bogey, while Sugrue carded an eagle, a bogey and three birdies and McBride dropped his only shot of the day on the 16th and then recovered it with his fifth birdie coming on the last.

Mark Power, making just his third Clutch Pro Tour start of the season, is a shot further back on three-under and tied for 21st, while Marc Boucher and John Ross Galbraith share 33rd at -2.

Cormac Sharvin, using the event as a tune-up for the Second Stage of DP World Tour Q-School which commences at the end of the month, shot a one-under 71 to end the day tied for 42nd, while Aoife Kelly, a Dubai-based schoolteacher playing as an amateur, went round in level-par.

Daniel Mulligan and Damien Scott (+1) will need to make up ground on day two if they’re to have any sort of say in proceedings, while Brandon St John had a round to forget and finds himself tied for 91st on +9.

Three Englishmen in Luke Joy, Ryan Brooks and Josh Hilleard sit atop the leaderboard, with China’s Hong Xiang completing the leading quartet.
