Tim Rice’s hopes of earning an invitation to Stage Two of DP World Tour Q-School took a sizeable hit with a two-over-par 74 seeing him fall into a share of 48th place at the halfway mark at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil.
The Limerick man was tied for 33rd after a one-under 71 on day one, recovering from a slow start to end the day two shots off the provisional qualification mark but after covering his opening nine holes in level-par on day two, two bogeys on the front side – his second nine – saw him slip back to +1 overall and six shots shy of the tie for 17th required to advance to Stage Two.
But he’s made the initial 36-hole cut, which fell at +5 and left 64 players remaining, and a round in the 60s could put the 2024 Elavon Order of Merit winner on the PGA in Ireland circuit right back into the mix.
Argentinian Andres German Gallegos has come through to head the pack after shooting back-to-back 66s, and he leads England’s Mason George by one and Norwegian Mats Ege by two.
Seven players share 15th at -5, which would be the cutoff point for qualification if the tournament finished today.
