Jack McDonnell carded a superb final round of 66 to win the French Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship by two shots at Chantilly Golf.
McDonnell began the final round in fifth place after rounds of 73 and 70 but started brilliantly on Sunday with three birdies in a row from the second.
The Royal Dublin man made it four birdies in eight holes and he survived a difficult period where he bogeyed the par-5 9th and the 11th with an eagle on the par-5 12th.
He gave himself a cushion with a crucial birdie on the 15th and he saw out the victory with three closing pars for a four-under-par total.
It was an Irish 1-2 with TJ Ford claiming second place.
The County Sligo man was McDonnell’s closest challenger and he will rue bogeys on 16 and 17 just as his compatriot started to find his groove on the back nine.
Ford had to settle for a round of 70 for a two-under total.
Richard Knightly earned a top-20 finish on six-over after rounds of 72, 73 and 74.
