James Sugrue shot a closing five-under 67 to push his way into second place at the conclusion of the Clutch Pro Tour’s Castle Royle Masters in Reading, England, and move into the top 10 in the Order of Merit with just two events remaining in the 2025 season.

The Mallow man opened with a two-under 70 and then made a big move up the leaderboard with a five-under 67 on day two. The former Amateur Championship winner has been Ireland’s most consistent performer on the circuit this season, and he backed up that second-round with another 67 on the final day, leapfrogging eight players to move up to second overall.

England’s Jake McGoldrick was the one player that he couldn’t overtake, however, as McGoldrick’s six birdies and bogey-free round saw him finish four clear of Sugrue and five clear of Harry Ellis and Tom Sloman who shared third.

In addition to the valuable Order of Merit points that see Sugrue keep his hopes of finishing inside the top three and earning a full HotelPlanner Tour card for 2026, he walks away with £5,000 in prize money.

Paul McBride shot a closing 69 to move to -7 overall and share 14th, while Daniel Mulligan and John Ross Galbraith shared 29th at -4. Galbraith will be disappointed with the result, having entered the final round two off the lead and struggled to a five-over 77.

Robert Brazill and Marc Boucher each finished with final-round 75s to finish tied for 34th at -2 and tied for 44th at level-par respectively.
