Robert Moran and Mark Power might be playing at different venues, but they share a common goal and both took big steps towards qualification for Stage Two of DP World Tour Q-School.
With the qualifier at Frederikshavn Golfklub in Denmark starting a day earlier, Moran had already gotten off to a good start by the time the action got underway at Golfclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf in Austria.
Rounds of 71 and 69 saw him in fifth place overall after round two, but a five-under 67 in round three pushed him up to second on the leaderboard, two behind home favourite Martin Simonsen. Crucially, however, he’s eight shots clear of the four players tied for 14th with the top 14 and ties moving on to Stage Two.
A weather delay meant that round one was not fully completed on day one in Austria, but Power had put a three-under 69 in the books and came out firing on day two to storm to the top of the leaderboard on -9 after a six-under 66 that included two eagles.
Stephen Grant followed his opening 74 with a three-under 69 to get into red figures and keep his hopes alive in a share of 28th at the halfway point and with the top 18 and ties advancing from here.
Alex Maguire struggled to a 75 in round one but he fought back with a one-under 71 to get back to +2 and lie tied for 41st.
