Robert Moran has reached the halfway point of the DP World Tour Q-School Stage One Qualifier at Frederikshavn Golfklub in Denmark and the Castle man is on course to advance to Stage Two.

After opening with a one-under 71 in tough scoring conditions on Tuesday, Moran made four birdies with just the one bogey in round two to move to four-under for the week and take a share of fifth place into the final 36 holes with the top 14 and ties qualifying.

Jordan Boles, the only other Irishman in the field, had a disappointing round on day one and the Charleville amateur couldn’t rescue the situation on day two and missed the 36-hole cut.

Meanwhile, play got underway at Golfclub Schloss Ebreichsdorf in Austria, where Mark Power, Stephen Grant and Alex Maguire are bidding to join Hugh Foley, John Ross Galbraith, David Carey, Tom Dowdall, Cormac Sharvin and Paul McBride as Irishmen already to have successfully navigated Stage One.

On a day marred by weather, Power birdied six of his 18 holes but made three bogeys, including one on the ninth – his 18th – to shoot a three-under 69 that was the second best score of the day but with only half the players managing to complete their rounds before play was suspended.

Grant got off to a horror bogey-double bogey start, but recovered to play the final 16 holes in one-under and lies tied for 15th at +2, while Maguire has yet to get his round in the books.
