John Ross Galbraith goes into the final round of the Clutch Pro Tour’s Castle Royle Masters just two shots off the lead, but the Whitehead man will be disappointed not to have sole possession of the lead.
An eight-under 64 on day one that featured six birdies and an eagle earned Galbraith first-round-leader honours, and he came out firing again in round two, making birdies on four of his first eight holes to stretch his advantage at the top.
But bogeys on 12 and 17 and a double bogey on 16 left him back at level-par for the day on the 18th tee before making a closing birdie to climb back up into a tie for fourth and he’ll go in search of his second Clutch Pro Tour win in Thursday’s final round just two off the lead at -9.
James Sugrue shot the low round of the day from an Irish perspective, and his five-under 67 lifts him into the top 10 at -7, while Robert Brazill and Paul McBride lie tied for 17th and tied for 24th after rounds of 70 and 71 respectively.
Marc Boucher shot a level-par 72 to remain at two-under-par, while Daniel Mulligan shot a three-under 69 to move from outside the provisional cutline and make it with two shots to spare.
Rory Williamson, Ignatius McGuinness and Scott Montgomery all go home empty handed, however, with Williamson staging a late rally and birdieing two of his final three holes but still coming up one shot shy.
Englishmen Angus Flanagan and Tom Sloman share the lead at -11, with Jake McGoldrick in solo third place at -10 and Galbraith part of a three-way tie for fourth at -9.
