Ireland suffered a painful 10-8 defeat to Scotland on day two of the Senior Home Internationals at Ferndown Golf Club.
Scotland’s victory means that England are top of the group with two wins from two but Ireland can still retain their crown with victory over the English on the final day.
Ireland got off to a flying start in the morning foursomes thanks to Laura Webb and Deirdre Walsh winning 2UP, and Gail Linter and Sinead Benedetti prevailing 2&1.
Scotland picked up a win while Alan Condren and Christy O’Connor secured a half point.
Jody Fanagan and Tony Cleary edged William MacMillan and Kenneth Gallacher 1UP, while Karl Bornemann and Philip Purdy kept up their 100% record as they romped to a 6&4 victory to give Ireland a 4.5-1.5 lead heading into the afternoon singles.
The Scottish women came out flying as Deirdre Smith won Ireland’s only point of the singles with a 2&1 win before Karl Bornemann’s 4&3 win took his personal tally to four wins from four.
Fanagan had to settle for a point after a fightback from Paul Moltrie meaning the contest went down to the final match.
Condren was 1UP with three to play but he was pipped to the post by Kenneth Gallacher on the last.
