Tom McKibbin leads the Irish charge heading into the final round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

McKibbin is eight-under-par after a round of 69 which has boosted him to a share of 19th place which leaves him five shots off the current pace set by Frenchman Adrien Saddier and Tyrrell Hatton.

The Holywood clubman, who can secure valuable world ranking points and Race to Dubai points with a strong Sunday, was steady as it comes with back to back birdies on the fourth and fifth, a bogey on the eleventh and back to back birdies to finish.

A shot further back is former BMW PGA champion Shane Lowry who carded a stress free round of 68.

The Offaly man was bogey-free and provided plenty of drama with a sensational tree escape on the ninth, although he may be disappointed not to have birdied the 17th and 18th to give himself an outside sniff of a first victory since winning here in 2022.

Looking at the bigger picture, the 2019 Open champion looks to be trending nicely ahead of the Ryder Cup at the end of this month.

Rory McIlroy will rue double bogeys on the 9th and 17th holes as he settled for a round of 70 and five-under total.

There was plenty of good golf from the reigning Irish Open champion with birdies coming on the third and fourth but the bogey on 6 and the double on 9 halted him.

He rallied on the back nine with three birdies in four holes and his double on 17 was sandwiched between birdies.

He shares 52nd place and trails the lead by eight.

At the top, Saddier and Hatton share the lead on thirteen-under, two shots clear of Richie Ramsay, Aaron Rai and the in form Alex Noren.

Bogeys on 8, 9 and a double bogey on 12 have dropped Viktor Hovland out of the lead and back to eleven-under as well while Ludvig Aberg and Hideki Matsuyama have had days to forget so far with both players at nine and seven-under respectively.
