It was a blustery start to the second round of the Alps Tour Hauts de France-Pas de Calais Golf Open as play was stopped in the afternoon for a weather delay and eventually suspended for darkness in the evening.
One could imagine that Dublin’s Hugh Foley did not want the day to finish as the 28-year embarked on a hot streak just before the suspension of play to see him fly up the leaderboard to share the lead with France’s Quentin Debove at three-under.
Two early bogeys came for Foley on the third and fifth holes, but the Dubliner went birdie-eagle on the eighth and ninth, before making two more birdies on the 10th and 11th holes.
Foley has three-top ten Alps Tour finishes to his name and will hope to wake up tomorrow morning in the same mindset as he left the course, as he is set to complete his remaining seven holes before the final round tomorrow afternoon.
Foley is in a great position to take a hefty lead before round three begins but right behind him is Italy’s Manfredi Manica who sits on two-under with seven holes to play in round two.
Sitting in fifth in the Order of Merit rankings, Galway’s Ronan Mullarney seemed to be more like himself in round two as he was able to complete his round, posting a one-under-par 70 to see him in a tie for 21st heading into the final day.
Also managing to complete his round is Paris-born Irishman Michael Young but he will be disappointed to not make the four-over-par cutline.
A six-over-par round one did Young no favours as he managed to post a more respectable one-over round two which seen him end his week seven-over.
Carton House’s Marc Boucher only managed to complete 11 holes before the claxon sounded but he will need a flawless start tomorrow morning when he starts on the 12th hole, as he currently sits six strokes off the cutline at 10-over.
26 golfers will complete their round two early Saturday morning, with round three taking place shortly after.
