John Ross Galbraith and Robert Brazill will go into the fourth and final round of the DP World Tour’s Stage One Q-School event at Northumberland Golf Club inside the all-important top 14.
After rounds of 65 and 69, Galbraith found himself tied for second at the halfway mark, and a two-under 70 in round three moved him to -12 overall and though he slips down to fourth on the leaderboard, he’s got a five-stroke cushion over the six players at -7 who are currently shared for 15th with the top 14 and ties advancing to Stage Two.
While Whitehead’s Galbraith was the only Irishman inside the top 14 after 36 holes, he’s now got company in the form of Robert Brazill. The Naas man carded rounds of 70 and 71 to sit on -3 after two rounds, but a five-under 67 saw him climb 17 places on the leaderboard and join a group of four at -8 and sharing 11th.
Sadly, the race looks to be run for Daniel Mulligan (+1), Luke O’Neill (+2), and James Sugrue (+3), but they’ll go out in the final round and try to make as many birdies as possible and hope that the pressure gets to those closer to the top of the leaderboard and the qualification mark comes back to the field.
Three players have shot rounds in the 60s on each of the three days. Scotland’s Craig Howie, American Nicolas Infanti, and Pablo Ereno of Spain all look set too advance, with Howie, at -16, holding a one-stroke lead over Infanti, and Ereno one shot behind the American in solo third.
