John Ross Galbraith finds himself sharing second place after 36 holes in the DP World Tour’s Q-School First Stage Qualifier at Northumberland Golf Club in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

After carding a seven-under opening round, the Whitehead man followed up with a three-under 69 to move to -10 and remain in a share of second place at the halfway mark.

Five birdies and two bogeys have him in prime position to be one of the top 14 and ties who will advance to Stage Two, but he can’t afford to rest on his laurels with four strokes separating him from the 14th player.

Naas’ Robert Brazill followed his 70 in round one with a second-round 71 but slips down into a share of 29th, with Connemara amateur Luke O’Neill a shot further adrift on -2 and tied for 31st after a level-par second round.

James Sugrue shares 52nd on +2, but made upward progress with a two-under 70 on day two, while Daniel Mulligan will also see action in round three after a birdie on the ninth – his 18th – was enough to see him make the cut on the number on +4, but he’ll need to go low over the remaining 36 holes if he’s to push his way into contention for advancement to Stage Two.
