After two rounds of the 2025 Longwy Alps Open, the competition remains wide open, with a tightly packed leaderboard setting the stage for an exciting final day.
Galway’s Ronan Mullarney will be hoping to add to his two Alps Tour wins after a three-under-par second round sees the 29-year-old in a three-way tie for fourth at seven-under, four shots off the lead.
A smooth start for Mullarney saw two birdies in the opening six holes but that momentum was briefly halted with a bogey on the par-4 seventh.
Not letting that get in his way, Mullarney went on to shoot two under par on the back nine to post a respectable round of 69.
It won’t be a day of remembering for the four other Irish golfers in the field as Mullarney is the only Irishman to make the one-under-par cutline.
Dublin’s Hugh Foley agonisingly missed the cut with a one-over par round two which put him at even-par after 36 holes.
28-year-old Michael Young will be disappointed to miss the cut but will surely take some confidence from his five-under-par round two as he undid the damage from his six-over-par round one to finish on one-over-par.
Both Brandon St John and Marc Boucher end their weekends with a five-over round two, finishing on eight-over.
It’s Spain’s Javier Barcos who holds a one stroke lead heading into the final round as the 23-year-old carded an eight-under round to take him to 11-under.
“It was one of those rounds that pretty much everything went well. I hit it good, and I made a couple of great putts that got my round going,” said the Spaniard.
Speaking on his one stroke lead, Barcos said: “I think about doing the same things I have been doing these past two days, keep focused and just think on what is in front of me, and trust I can hit good shots.”
In solo second place with a two-day total of 10-under-par is 34-year-old Spaniard Manuel Morugan.
The 2022 Abruzzo Alps Open winner fired a bogey-free seven-under-par round including a hattrick of birdies on holes six, seven and eight.
“I obviously played well, but I was very calm all day today… I’ll focus on tomorrow and do the same thing as I did today. I’ll enjoy it either way it goes. Hopefully I’ll have a positive outcome, but no matter what, that’s the only target I’ll have tomorrow,” said Morugan.
Italy’s Ludovico Addabbo sits in solo third place with thanks to a seven-under-par round two to take the 26-year-old to eight-under for the final round.
“This is a relatively tight course, so I’ll stick to the same plan, keep the ball in play, even if that means giving up a bit of distance and leaving myself some long irons into par fours,” said Addabbo.
Spain’s Borja Martin and Italy’s Mattia Comotti both share T4 with Mullarney.
The Final Round will begin at 7:50 a.m. Irish time from the 1st hole. The Final Pairing will tee off at 11:20 a.m. Irish time from the 1st hole.
