Hannah Lee-McNamara is through to the last 32 of the Girls Amateur Championship at Conwy Golf Club in Wales, and closer to home, Adam Fahey and John Doyle are gearing up for last 32 matches of their own in the Boys Amateur Championship at County Louth.

After advancing as the 56th seed, 16-year-old Lee-McNamara from Royal Portrush faced ninth seed Manon Petitcolas from France, but it was the Irish girl who looked the more assured once the knockout stage began, taking a commanding lead and eventually closing out a 6&4 victory.

She now faces Spaniard Adriana Garcia Terol with a round of 16 berth awaiting the winner.

At County Louth, Adam Fahey, who finished as the leading Irishman in strokeplay qualifying and entered matchplay as the 12th seed continued his impressive performance and routinely dispatched Scotland’s Finlay Galloway 6&5.

Portmarnock’s Fahey will take on Mikuláš Vojtěšek from the Czech Republic in the last 32.

Harry O’Hara from Clandeboye fell 3&2 to Welshman Dion Regan, leaving John Doyle as the only remaining hope of having two Irish boys in the second knockout stage.

In a pulsating battle with Kato Kinjiro of Japan that went all the way to the 20th hole, it was the 18-year-old from Fota Island that emerged victorious, and he goes on to meet Sweden’s Filip Grave in the round of 32.

There is a long way to go, but should Fahey and Doyle both continue to win their matches, they wouldn’t meet until the final as they are on opposite sides of the draw.
